I enjoyed the book "Constancia De La Mora in War and Exile" immensely and found the story of Constancia's life fascinating. This biographical portrait was framed by accounts of the conflicting forces of history during the Spanish Civil War, World War II and the postwar period in Mexico and the United States. The author portrays Constancia de la Mora's courage in setting her own course in life and defending others as well as her duplicity and arrogance, at times, brought about by desperation and commitment to her mission.As in all interesting historical accounts, there is an element of mystery and investigation into what really happened, which incited my curiosity as to what would occur on the next page and next chapter. The author relies on interviews, written accounts, government files and historical documents for accuracy. Constancia's colleagues' and friends' opinions contribute to making this portrait come to life.I was particularly interested in the pervasive anti-communist environment portrayed here and could not help comparing it to the irrational right wing attacks still dominating the airwaves in the context of our current political system.I strongly recommend this book, both as a historical account of the times and as a very appealing biography.
